Headphones have now become an important item. We use it on a daily basis. In fact, it is now a fashion requirement. From listening to music to performing household chores and commercially hold audio conferences to treating as a fashion trend, there are many reasons why you would want to purchase headphones.
Interestingly, there are many facts people do not know about headphones. This is because these facts are unique. Following are those facts listed:
1. One earpiece
When the headphone was introduced, it only had one earpiece. This is during the 1800s. The telephone operators used a very simplified model of headphones that a lot of people do not know about. It was required to be connected to a contraption. It was further connected with a mouthpiece so that transmission could be done.
2. Production in kitchen
The headphones were earlier produced in the kitchen as opposed to a proper production factory. The headphones were then sold to the Navy department so that they could use it as a part of the radio equipment. Since it was made in kitchen only, the rate of production was too low. However, with the passage of time, the production scale and mode changed dramatically. Now we see that models like JBL Headphones are produced at a massive level.
3. Headphones are called “Cans”
A lot of people call headphones as “cans”. There are many reasons behind that. It was essentially used as a slang term in the past. This is because it referred to anything which produced sound. Given that cans bounce sound within it and can produce echoes, this is why headphones were then termed as cans.
4. Headphones were not portable
This is something that a lot of people are shocked to listen to. Back in time, headphones were not portable. It could not be taken from one place to another. It were basically used for home purposes to listen to records. In fact, the manufacturers did not even think of portability as a requirement. Headphones were even manufactured at a heavy weight. It weighed between 2 to 3 kgs, which is quite of a burden on the user. It was then that the manufacturers realized the need to not only create light weight headphones but portable ones. Now the headphones do not weigh more than 300 grams. Now we even have portable speakers such as JBL Speakers.
5. Noise cancellation technology production
A lot of people know about the recent noise cancellation technology, however, they are not familiar with the reason behind its production. It was essentially due to the noisy engines of the airplanes. This technology was initially meant to serve the airline industry only. Given that there were extremely loud noises in the pilot’s cockpit, they used to wear these headphones while flying the airplane. The prototype of these headphones were really successful and thereafter, was used in the mainstream industry. Since then, it has been a major success and millions of units are being sold.
