    Most Common Sports Injuries and How to Treat Them

    Every year, millions of sports enthusiasts are injured while participating in their favorite activities. Although most of these injuries are minor and can easily heal with simple rest, there are some common sports injuries that require specialized care. The most commonly reported sports injuries include: 

    Ankle sprains

By taking precautionary measures such as wearing supportive shoes and avoiding slips, trips, or falls during play, you can avoid ever having to worry about how to treat an ankle sprain in the first place.

    Whiplash

    Whiplash is a common sports injury that can occur due to violent sudden head movements. Symptoms normally consist of neck pain and stiffness, along with headaches and decreased range of motion. If left untreated, whiplash may be accompanied by chronic pain and muscle weakness that can disrupt day-to-day activities. 

    The most effective treatments for whiplash include chiropractic care from an experienced chiropractor who can align the spine to restore mobility, reduce inflammation, and relieve symptoms. Furthermore, medication or physical therapies may be prescribed depending on the severity of the injury. Finally, rest is necessary for the whiplash to heal properly before returning to physical activity.

    Hamstring strains

    Hamstring strains are one of the most common injuries encountered by athletes. A hamstring strain occurs when the fibers of the hamstrings tear, usually due to overstretching and excessive use. The most common symptom is a sharp pain in the back of the thigh, and depending on the severity it can also include localized swelling or muscle spasms. 

    Treatment for hamstring strains typically begins with resting from activities causing pain or discomfort, followed by cold and compression therapy. Exercises aimed at strengthening muscles throughout the legs can then be utilized to rebuild strength and flexibility over time. Restoring the full range of motion to the leg muscles is an important factor for proper long-term recovery and will help reduce the risk of recurrence.

    ACL tears

    ACL tears are among the most common sports injuries, requiring anywhere from six to nine months of recovery. ACL stands for Anterior Cruciate Ligament and connects the thigh bone to the shin bone. They are typically caused by sudden stops and starts, quick changes in direction while running, or landing incorrectly while jumping. When an ACL tear occurs, it can cause significant pain and swelling that should be treated right away by a medical professional. 

    Treatments can range from physical therapy to help with bracing and exercises, to reconstructive surgery to repair the damaged ligament. It is important to follow the doctor’s orders so that your injury heals properly without leading to further damage or a lengthy recovery time. Taking some time off from your sport may also be necessary in order to give your body the rest it needs after such an injury.

    Concussion

Of course, the severity depends on what caused the injury, but regardless of the cause, shoulder dislocations require proper treatment. 

    The normal treatment for shoulder dislocations involves returning the shoulder to its normal position through manipulation or putting a sedative in place before moving it back. After that, depending on how severe the injury is, rehab exercises will be used to control swelling and strengthen muscles around the joint. 

    It’s also important to note that when dealing with a dislocated shoulder, surgery may be recommended if other treatments don’t work or for more serious cases. It may take up to three months for a person to fully recover from a dislocated shoulder and return their range of motion back to its pre-injury state.
