Whether you work from home full time or part-time, your home office is likely more cluttered and dirty than you realize. Even though you see the grime every day, you may not notice dusty shelves and cluttered desks.
Every day, we clean homes, offices, apartments, and more, so we are uniquely qualified to recognize a dirty room. To help you keep your workspace tidy and functional, we have created an office private cleanin Privat rengøring checklist.
- Begin with a clean slate.
Regardless of whether or not you plan on putting everything back, take everything off your desk. Some people thrive on having their desks completely free of everything but the necessities. Other individuals are more creative when their workspaces are cluttered. Make sure you choose wisely what you allow to live on your desk so you don’t get buried in a clutter avalanche. Bring back only what you need and what makes you happy.
- Make sure to wipe down your desk surface, keyboard, mouse, desk lamp, and any other high-touch hotspots.
Being sick in bed makes you incapable of being productive. You should wipe down all the surfaces and items you use regularly, like your keyboard and mouse, to prevent the spread of germs and the accumulation of dust. Check out our previous post for tips on how to clean electronic devices properly! Then be sure to keep these spots on your regular Flytterengøring cleaning checklist.
- Sort through your paper clutter and get rid of what you don’t need.
Keep a wastepaper basket near your desk, as well as a paper shredder. Unlike electronic clutter, paper clutter, like junk mail, fliers, and receipts, tends to accumulate and multiply without us realizing it, often because we put off making decisions about each piece when we first discover it. Regularly sort through paper clutter to keep it under control. Depending on how fast it piles up for you, plan to do this between once a week and once a month.
Sort your desk papers into four piles:
- Get rid of anything you don’t need that contains personal information (credit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security numbers, etc.).
- Don’t keep anything that contains personally-identifying information that you don’t need. Take your shredding to an office supply or shipping store that offers shredding services or invest in a small personal shredder. (Pro tip: around the end of tax season, take advantage of free shredding events sponsored by businesses or municipalities!)
- Store important documents safely so that you’ll have them when you need them later. Keep in mind that many documents can now be accessed online, including instruction manuals, receipts, pay stubs, and tax forms.
- Deal with things that need action, such as paying a bill, returning an item, or filing taxes. Do these things as soon as you can so that you don’t end up with an overwhelming pile or, worse, miss a deadline and have to pay a penalty.
- Have everything you need within reach.
Consider what you use when you’re working. Place those items on your desk or nearby. When you have what you need on hand, you can avoid interruptions to your workflow and save time. You may want to consider adding a small shelf or file holder to your desk if there’s space. Make sure you have rolling file drawers within easy reach. Attach a bulletin board to the wall above your desk. Create a streamlined environment for success.
