    How many times have you counted down the days to your much-awaited international trip and then turned up there with a massive jet lag that takes almost 2 days to recover from? You may have seen many people with the adverse effects of jet lag. Some try to sleep in day time but they can’t and spent a night in a bed without having sleep. They cannot eat even their favourite dish due to bad health. You know this story all too well, don’t you?

    Travelling is major rush – you want to go places and you want to do it all the time – but the jet lag that comes with it kills half the joy of the trip. 2020 witnessed the emergence of a new trend that doesn’t have this drawback – virtual travel. When the world was in isolation, virtual tours came as our saviour and became the escape that everyone was desperately seeking. But, now that the world is gradually opening its doors again, people are looking forward to being able to travel in person, but what do we do about the jet lag?

    When you travel to a different time zone, your body’s natural clock gets disturbed and the result of this is Jet lag. This is a temporary effect on your body but causes many small problems that make you feel unwell.

    • Irritability
    • Excessive sleepiness
    • Insomnia
    • Disorientation or confusion

    6 Tips To Prevent Jet Lag During Travel

    The good news is that jet lag can certainly be prevented and you can enjoy your holiday to the fullest. Here’s how!

    1. Scheduling after trip

    If you have already booked a flight then make one or two days schedule in advance by checking arrival time. If you have some important work then book your flight one day in advance for preparing yourself. Take timely sleep and eat regularly to slow the effect of jet lag.

    1. Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine During and Before Your Flight

    If you have a flight of more than 10 hours then avoid alcohol or caffeine before or during the flight. Drink water regularly in the flight as drier air inside the plane can make your body dehydrate. Drinking alcohol or caffeine can increase symptoms. If you drink it to increase sleep then it will also chance of a hangover due to over drinking. And the effect of Jet lag with a hangover can more severe. Drinking Caffeine also affects your sleeping pattern.

    1. Wear Comfortable Clothes and Shoes

    If you regularly travel by car, bus, train or flight, but on any trip wear your clothes light and comfortable. Do not put any items in your pockets. For long hour flight, you will notice weight and pinch of items that are in pockets. Also, put cloths for the final destination in your bag upside and easily reachable. If you are going from a hot climate to a cold climate city then you have one pair of winter clothes in a small bag with you.

    1. Adapt to the Local Schedule

    Be ready for adjusting in local time schedule. Make a plan of activities before flight as per your arrival time of destination. If you reach at around 12:00 pm then do your lunch and walk around in direct sunlight to get energised. You will feel good with this working after long flight. Also, it will help to reduce sleep at that time. If you are first time at that destination then no better idea then walking around in nearby locations.

    5. Try to Sleep During Your Flight

    If you can’t sleep during flight then you should move your body and stretch your arms and legs. Take a little walk during the flight. For the solution of disruption in sleeping during long hour flights, you can use sleeping aid. 

    1. Napping in day time

    When you arrive in the daytime at your destination, the first thing is to limit your naps. You can nap frequently but do not sleep more than half-hour. If you succeed then you have nice sleep at bedtime and after that, you can make it regular. If not possible then try to do and your sleep may become regular after few days. So this practice will help you to down jetlag.
