According to the NDIS, plans are only valid for a year. Following that, participants must obtain extensions or reviews for the following year. Furthermore, funding balances cannot be carried forward to the following year, which confuses the majority of people receiving assistance. As a result, all participants must be aware of the steps that must be taken prior to the expiration of their NDIS plan. This knowledge also enables them to fully utilize their funding before the end of the fiscal year. Here are some details to consider if you are concerned about what happens after your NDIS plan expires.
HOW LONG WILL AN NDIS PLAN BE IN EFFECT?
Annual reviews of NDIS plans are required, and you must review your plans during this time. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the NDIS allowed participants to have plans for three years in a row. Participants who are unlikely to review their needs will benefit from a longer plan.
As a result, you can go about your daily activities knowing that your plan will be reviewed in a few years. The NDIS three-year plan is ideal for you if;
Your situation has stabilized, and you are unlikely to change the type of assistance you require.
You are confident that NDIS funding will assist you in achieving your personal objectives.
You want to achieve long-term goals by working or volunteering in your community.
If your NDIS plan does not meet the criteria, you will have to revise it after 12 months.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY NDIS PLAN RUNS OUT?
A few weeks before your plan expires, the NDIA will contact you. The agency will notify you of plan reviews and any necessary changes. This meeting allows you to assess your current plan and goals, as well as how you want to improve in the future. When applying for NDIS funding, you will ultimately decide whether to modify your plan and goals.
There are two major factors to consider when renewing your plan.
- EXTENSION OF THE PLAN
When you extend your NDIS plan, you are extending the current plan into the next year. As a result, contact the NDIS and request that your current plan be applied to the following year’s plan after it expires.
- ANALYSIS OF THE PLAN
Consider plan reassessment if the current plan has flaws that you want to address. This process entails a thorough review of the plan to include additional support services to assist you in meeting personal objectives. Officials from the NDIS will also work with you to develop a suitable plan.
WHAT SHOULD I DO PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF MY NDIS PLAN?
Analyze your plan to see if it is serving you well or if you need to make changes.
Make a list of what needs to be changed and why you want to change your strategy.
Contact a support coordinator to be guided through the reassessment process.
Use any remaining funds before applying for NDIS because they will not be carried over to the following year.
WILL I RECEIVE SUPPORT AFTER MY PLAN EXPIRES PRIOR TO RENEWAL?
Despite the fact that the NDIS will contact you weeks before your plan reviews, there may be a gap between your plans. If your plan expires and the NDIS does not renew it, you will still receive assistance. Providers will continue to provide services until your next plan begins. As a result, a gap between your plans should be fine because the NDIS will still assist you.
NDIS plans expire after 12 months, so there is no need to be concerned if yours is approaching this date. The NDIS will discuss options for extending or reevaluating your plan for the coming year. If you require a comprehensive plan review, please contact a support coordinator.
